Beam SFD & BMD Studio

What am I seeing?

• The shear force diagram jumps at every point load by the value of that load.
• The slope of the bending moment diagram equals the shear force, so the moment peaks where V crosses zero.
• A UDL gives a sloping straight line in the SFD and a parabola in the BMD.
• An applied moment causes a step in the BMD and leaves the SFD unchanged.
• Drag any load along the beam and watch both diagrams follow. Move the pointer across the figure to read V and M at any section.
