What am I seeing?
- Torsional shear stress grows linearly from zero at the centre to τmax at the surface.
- Material near the axis does little work, which is why hollow shafts are so efficient.
- The angle of twist is TL/GJ for a uniform shaft; a taper is integrated along the length.
- The thin end of a tapered shaft governs the stress.
